Fred Sirieix, the well-known host of First Dates, has taken a swipe at ITV’s Love Island,

claiming that participants on his show are in it purely for romance rather than money or fame.
The 53-year-old maître d’, who has been a familiar face on television since First Dates debuted in 2013,
insists that contestants on his show have genuine intentions, unlike those on Love Island, who must couple up strategically to remain in the competition.

Fred emphasized that First Dates offers something completely different from the reality dating format seen in Love Island,

where contestants live in a luxurious villa and compete to remain in the game.

He argued that while his show provides only a brief moment in the spotlight, it focuses on genuine human connections, free from any ulterior motives related to wealth or celebrity status.
Fred Sirieix’s Thoughts on Love Island vs. First Dates
In a recent interview, Fred explained why he believes First Dates stands apart from other dating reality shows. He pointed out that contestants on his program arrive without any financial incentives or promises of fame. Instead, they simply meet their blind dates in a specially set-up restaurant, where cameras capture their first impressions, conversations, and chemistry—or lack thereof.
At the end of each episode, couples reveal whether they would like to see each other again, marking the true test of romantic potential. Unlike Love Island, where contestants must maintain a partnership to avoid elimination, First Dates does not impose such conditions on participants.
Fred made it clear that he has no intention of outright attacking Love Island but stressed the authenticity of his own show. “I’m not here to diss Love Island or anything like that,” he said. “But people don’t come on First Dates because they want to make money or be famous. They come to find love, and that is pure.”

He went on to highlight the lack of external motivations on First Dates, saying, “There is no prize, no money, and no glory besides finding love. They have five minutes on television and can hopefully come back home with a person they want to be with for the rest of their lives. It’s beautiful—I’m a romantic at heart.”
Fred’s Own Love Life and Recent Wedding
While Fred is known for helping others find love, he keeps his own romantic life relatively private. However, last month, he tied the knot with his long-time partner, whom he affectionately calls “Fruitcake.” The couple exchanged vows in a stunning ceremony at Pattoo Castle, Jamaica, surrounded by their loved ones.
Fruitcake later shared heartwarming photos of their big day, including a romantic moment where Fred kissed his bride in front of a picturesque sunset. She looked elegant in a strapless white lace gown with a corseted bodice and sheer veil.
Additional images from the wedding showcased the newlyweds celebrating their union, walking down the aisle with joyful expressions while guests showered them with confetti. Fred looked dashing in a white suit jacket, black trousers, and a matching bow tie as he raised his hand in triumph.
Following their wedding, the couple embarked on a honeymoon adventure in Kingston, sharing glimpses of their journey on social media. Fred, known for his love of swimwear, wasted no time slipping into his signature Speedos.

Fred’s Signature Speedos and Love for Swimming
Fred’s fondness for his Speedos has long been a topic of discussion. During his stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2023, his wife revealed that he is rarely seen without them. She shared that when packing for the jungle, Fred included three pairs of Speedos and only two pairs of regular underwear.
“If he could, he would be a naturist walking around in there,” she joked. “So the fact he is just in his pants doesn’t surprise me.”
She also recalled how Fred often stripped down when working alongside Gino D’Acampo and Gordon Ramsay on their travel and cooking series. “When he is with Gino and Gordon, he is always the one getting his kit off,” she said, laughing.
Among his collection of swimwear, Fred reportedly owns a pair featuring the French flag, as well as others in bold red and blue shades. His wife humorously added, “I swear the man lives in them.”

Fred Sirieix’s Passion for Romance and Genuine Connections
Despite his lighthearted personality, Fred takes matchmaking seriously. His role on First Dates is more than just hosting—it’s about fostering meaningful connections between strangers. While he remains open-minded about different dating formats, his remarks about Love Island suggest he values authenticity over reality show drama.
With his recent marriage and ongoing success as the face of First Dates, Fred continues to champion true love. Whether he’s helping strangers connect on television or enjoying a romantic getaway with his new wife, his dedication to genuine romance remains unwavering.
