Jenna Bush Hager and Savannah Guthrie have shared a deep friendship over the years,

one that has extended beyond their roles as co-hosts on Today and into their personal lives as family.
Their bond has grown so strong that they have taken on the special role of godparents to each other’s children, a testament to their unwavering support for one another.
During the latest episode of Today with Jenna and Friends, the two women got emotional while discussing Guthrie’s new children’s book, Mostly What God Does Is Love You.

As they reflected on the book’s message and the role faith plays in their lives,

Bush Hager expressed just how proud she is of her goddaughter, Vale, who is Guthrie’s 10-year-old daughter.

“I want to weep because I’ve known Vale-y every day since she was born, many of us have, but also I’m so lucky to be her godmother,” Bush Hager said, her voice filled with emotion. “I’m so proud of her because everything you’ve given to them, all of your faith that you’ve passed down so gently, without preaching, without demanding, is in those little kids. And when the world feels dark, that is hope.”
Guthrie, who is also mom to 8-year-old son Charley, was visibly touched by Bush Hager’s words. The moment underscored the strong connection between the two women, whose relationship extends beyond television and into the deeply personal realm of faith and family.
The revelation that the two are godparents to each other’s children is not entirely new. In 2020, Bush Hager shared during an Instagram Live chat with E!’s Jason Kennedy that Guthrie is the godmother of her youngest child, Hal. She explained that their shared faith has played a significant role in their relationship. “Savannah and I go to the same church,” she said at the time. “Our faith is really important.”
Bush Hager and her husband, Henry Hager, welcomed Hal in August 2019. The couple also has two daughters, 11-year-old Mila and 9-year-old Poppy. With such a close-knit friendship, it’s clear that Guthrie is not just a co-host but a significant figure in Bush Hager’s family life.

The depth of their friendship was further highlighted on a recent episode of Today with Jenna and Friends, when Bush Hager sat down with Monica Lewinsky to discuss one of her biggest concerns as a mother. She admitted that she worries about how today’s children may not have the same opportunities to experience and learn from failure.
“It’s actually my biggest concern as a mom. I don’t think our kids are allowed to fail,” she said candidly. “And I failed publicly, and it’s actually what makes me, I feel like, my superpower.”
Bush Hager has long been open about her experiences growing up in the public eye as the daughter of former President George W. Bush. Her perspective on resilience and overcoming obstacles has shaped her outlook on parenting. She emphasized the importance of teaching children that failure isn’t the end of the world but rather a stepping stone to growth.
“I feel brave because you can come out of something,” she continued. “We need to teach kids that they can come out of things.”

This sentiment echoes the values that both she and Guthrie share as mothers and godparents. Their friendship, built on trust, faith, and mutual admiration, has led them to support one another in their parenting journeys. Whether it’s guiding each other’s children in faith or sharing life lessons on resilience, their bond is a shining example of true friendship.
As their children continue to grow, it’s evident that the love and support they provide for each other’s families will remain unwavering. For Bush Hager and Guthrie, being co-hosts is just one part of their relationship—the real story is the family they’ve built together.
